Editor's Post: Our new breakfast hangout: John's Quick Lunch
Posted 05/26/07 by jenn | Filed under: restaurantEats
Apparently, this small, family-owned, restaurant only serves breakfast and lunch, which explains why it?s usually closed by 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
With the exception of one side of the building that sports a HUGE mural of its owner, John, the restaurant looks simple on the outside. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted by the many smiling faces of happy patrons; most are adult, some, children. What is striking about the restaurant?s interior, besides the many families that dine there, are its warm shades of brown and its big ceiling fans. The atmosphere is cozy and homey. You know that you?re going to have a home-cooked meal.
The service was friendly, attentive, and fast. Despite it being packed, we received our meal less than 10 minutes after the waitress took our order.
More follows:
Since it was only 11:30 on a Saturday morning, we couldn?t quite convince ourselves to eat anything but breakfast, so we each ordered simple breakfasts. Mine was a three-egg vegetarian omelet (tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, potatoes and sweet onions), which was complemented by two slices of white toast, home fries, and a helping of baked beans. My other half had the two-egg breakfast, which came with two scrambled eggs, three delicious and juicy sausages, home fries and a helping of baked beans.
Boy were we in for a pleasant and very delightful surprise. Firstly, the home fries were REAL. They were made with fresh potatoes. They weren?t the nasty frozen store-bought kind that unfortunate patrons often gets when ordering breakfast from an establishment like Denny?s or Kelsey?s. Secondly, when we finished, there wasn?t a single drop of grease on our plates. Usually, diner-style restaurant breakfasts end with a gigantic puddle of orange or yellow coloured grease at the bottom of the plate.
Our meals were simple and delicious. The portions were just right.
John?s is a great restaurant, serving simple, honest, and yummy food. The entire meal cost $14 with a 15% tip. The price also included a cup of coffee for my coffee-addicted man, which was deemed ?drinkable?.
A quick look at the rest of the menu also revealed affordable prices for all their dishes, sides, and drinks. This is one place that will have people coming back for more!
