Update: Chef/Owner Tracey Black of Epicuria (419 Mackay Street) tweeted a piece from the Chicago Sun Times two nights ago about restaurateurs and chefs increasingly adopting social media (SM). A blog, called Chefs Who Tweet, has event taken to task, listing chefs, celebrity or otherwise, who use Twitter.

According to the Sun Times piece, by posting pictures of the kitchen and/or dishes on social networks like Twitter or Facebook, putting videos to YouTube, and starting blogs, restaurants have increased sales and improved table turnover. Not only do prospective patrons get to see the quality of their product, but the interaction establishes a familiarity. Establishing this familiarity has become valuable. Marketers have taken notice, offering social media exposure for hire.

The Ottawa restaurant industry seems to already understand with eateries establishing FaceBook fan pages, chefs and restaurateurs getting Twitter accounts, and some chefs even starting YouTube channels.
